children of all ages. There are cabanas, where nature overwhelms
in a hundred different shades of green with splashes of red and
ochre; where the roads are unpaved and the vegetation provides
natural parasols and umbrellas; where the red sun sinks into the
sea and motionless iguanas stare at you from less than half meter.
Other
hotels and resorts on Tamarindo beach: Cala Luna, Capitan
Suizo, El Diria, Tropicana.
Playa
Tamarindo
A
large variety of Eco systems exist at Playa Tamarindo.
You might hike into Parque Nacional to experience the black,
white and red mangrove morasses; meet a raccoon and a howling
monkey; hear and see the white ibis, the silver heron and the
pink spoonbill.
You may want to surf, water-ski, snorkel and/or fish for your
own lunch or dinner. Perhaps spending time on the beach just relaxing
will be appealing
Some
places and activities of interest in the area include:
Cartagena
Canopy: Experience the forest near the Tamarindo beach from
a totally different perspective, gliding through the canopy where
the majority of the birds and many animals spend most of their
time, in the treetops.
Palo Verde National Park - Tempisque River: Paradise for
bird watchers! Visit one of the parks with the largest variety
of habitats with mangroves, swamp forests, swamps, and both fresh
and saltwater lagoons.
Take a two and a half hour boat ride on the Tempisque River,
one the most important of the province of Guanacaste. A huge variety
of birds can be admired along the course. This important waterway,
bordering Palo Verde national Park is best known for preserving
some of the most extensive wetlands in the world. These provide
refuge for hundreds of migrant and resident water birds, numerous
land birds and many other animals, such as the
mighty crocodile. Your naturalist tour guide will explain the
intricate ecosystem of this interesting and scenic area.
Snorkeling: For the best snorkeling in the area you start
out from Tamarindo Beach on a small boat headed towards
the Catalina`s Islands or Potrero Beach. Once there
you will enjoy the beautiful colors of the underwater life, reefs
and exotic fish. This is a perfect tour for the whole family!!!.
Also you might try the nearest snorkeling in the area. You leave
Tamarindo by kayak to Isla "El Capitan". The kayak
paddle takes approximately 20 minutes. Once there, you will spend
from one to one and a half hours snorkeling and exploring this
volcanic rock and shell covered island
ESTUARY TOUR: A kayak tour makes exploring Tamarindo's
estuaries easy. This tour takes you meandering through the slow
estuary waters shaded by the extensive mangroves. Spotting birds,
iguanas and crocodiles basking on the sun-drenched riverbanks
are just a few of the highlights!!!
Learn how to surf: The only thing you need is some swimming
knowledge and a good sense of humor. Instructors guarantee you
will stand up and ride your first wave in just one lesson!!!.
The duration of the lesson is 1 ½ to 2 hours and includes the
Surfboard you need. There are advanced classes for people who
already have some knowledge.
Surf Trip: If you
are experienced or a fast learner you can take a boat from Tamarindo
Beach for the best Surf spots around ---- Witches Rock, Ollis
Point and other secret spots. Left and right, tubes, the perfect
waves.
Sailboat excursions: Sail around Tamarindo Bay looking
for marine life and enjoying the fabulous Tamarindo sunset; listen
to sunset music ( classical, if you like or Enya.) Beer, white
& red wine, soft drinks, snacks, dips and a plate of fresh tropical
fruits . You can also take a half day Snorkel trip, discovering
Costa Rican pacific waters which host a variety of tropical fish.
To be discovered are eels, puffer fish, trigger fish, rays, dolphins,
manta-rays, devil-rays and whales. Whales can be spotted from
December throughout March & April.
Boogie Boarding: Grab a boogie board and enjoy the surf
in front of your hotel.
ATV: Rent an ATV on your own or go on a tour to the mountain
or along the beach. There are great trails to explore and much
to discover! A one hour tour takes you up to the hills behind
Tamarindo. There you will savor Tamarindo's spectacularly colorful
sunsets. With a bit of luck you will find Howler Monkeys swinging
through the trees, and surely you'll see huge Iguanas crossing
your path. This is a good tour for beginners who would like to
try something special.
Sports Fishing: The
waters in front of Tamarindo Beach are the primary fishing grounds
for the northwest Pacific coast sportfishing fleet. Tamarindo
itself faces a major shore ward sweep of the continental shelf
and the 100 fathom line. For this reason, the run time to deep,
blue-water fishing(10-30 min.) is less than that of other locations.
Half day charters fish closer to shore with lighter tackle in
search of mackerel, dolphinfish, wahoo, tuna and other species,
or bottom fishing for amberjack, snapper, shark or roosterfish.
Full day charters move offshore in search of large dolphinfish,
giant tuna, sailfish, and blue, black and striped marlin. All
Captains are experienced professionals, and as a group represent
the most comprehensive body of local knowledge of these waters
available in Costa Rica. Their primary concern is conservation.
Catch-and-release is practiced on all billfish; with food species
the practice is catch what you can eat and release the rest.
DAY 08: Departure transfer from Tamarindo to San Jose Airport
for your flight home.
